When she turned two years of age, her parents travelled down to Nigeria to settle down. She grew up in Lagos State, Nigeria, and later returned to Paris where her musical career got fueled and kicked on.
As a result of her father’s occupation as a cinematographer, her music influences grew over the years as her father had gathered several music or different genres for his work.
The record her father had gathered included songs by musicians like Marvin Gaye, Miriam Makeba, King Sunny Ade, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley and others.
These artistes would be the greatest musical influences of Asa as her love for music sprouted. In 2004, she came in contact with a musical personality known as Janet Nwose. Asa and Nwose became good friends, and eventually, Janet Nwose got her introduced to one of the most popular music producers in Nigeria, Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo.
Her first music album was produced by Cobhams, whom she met through her friend, Janet Nwose. At the age of 20, Asa returned to France where she went to study at a music school called the IMFP School Of Jazz Music.
At the music school, she was told that her musical skills were honed enough to become a professional musician, and that she didn’t have to be schooled musically anymore, or for long. She already released a single titled Eyé Adaba, which was becoming a big success gradually.
Later on, she got signed to a music label known as Naïve Records, under which she released her debut album titled Asa. The album was released in partnership with Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo, Christophe Dupouy, and Benjamin Constant, and it achieved huge success in Asia, Africa, and Europe.
In 2008, with her album, she was able to win the French Constantin Award in 2008. She was voted Best Fresh Talent of 10 singers/groups, and was handpicked by a jury of 19 music experts in Paris. On the 25th of October, 2010, she released her second album titled Beautiful Imperfection.
The album became a platinum album in 2011, and its lead single was titled Be My Man, which was released in September 2010 before the release of the actual album. In August 2014, she released her third album titled Bed of Stone.
The album had four lead singles: The One that Never Comes, Satan be Gone, Eyo, and Dead Again. From 2015 to 2017, Asa went on tour to promote her songs worldwide, and musical career.
Asa has been faced with challenges in the music industry even after her rise to stardom – she’s been charged with accusations of being a Lesbian and a homosexual in past years. Today, although she’s got haters, her lovers are over 10 times more than her critics. In spite of all the challenges, she was able to carve herself and make her once mocked voice a unique.
Asa has an estimated net worth of $3 million dollars. She earns from her music sales, music collaborations, show bookings, and endorsement deals. According to reports spread over the internet, Asa signed multimillion naira endorsement deals with GT Bank and telecommunications giant 9mobile (known formerly as Etisalat).
