Controversy Over the April 2015 Gubernatorial Election
The Election Tribunal for Rivers State which sits in Abuja commenced the hearing on the 13th of May, 2015, of the gubernatorial election in Rivers State which declared Wike winner over Dakuku Peterside who consulted the Tribunal to nullify the election.
Dr Dakuku Peterside stated that Nyesom Wike won the election after the workings of electoral misconducts which goes against the Electoral Act provisions.
Justice Zainab Bulkachawa, who is the President of the Court of Appeal, ordered that the Tribunal be held for security reasons in Abuja, lashing out the suggestion of Wike that the Tribunal be held in Port Harcourt after having opposed the Abuja case hearing.
On the 24th of October, 2014, the election of Nyesom Wike was nullified by the Rivers State Governorship election tribunal. A rerun of the election was ordered by the tribunal to be conducted 90 days after the tribunal judgement.
Nyesom Wike appealed the tribunal order, and eventually, gained victory over all the impediments to become the Rivers State Governor.
