Hugh Masekela is a South African music composer, trumpeter, cornetist, singer and musician with an estimated net worth of $1.5 million dollars. He was birthed in Witbank in South Africa on 4th of April, 1939.

Hugh happens to be the biological father of Salema Masekela the American TV host and on air personality. He's multi-talented as he is able to skillfully play the Trombone, Flugelhorn, Trumpet and Cornet.

Hugh started playing the instrument and singing at an early age. When he clocked 14 years of age, he was already gaining mastery of the trumpet and was a pianist.

He played as the trumpeter for the Huddleston Band and has joined a South African trumpet band known as Dave Matthews Band. He was also a member of the Alfred Herbert's African Jazz Band.

His debut album titled "Trumpet Africaine" was released in 1962 under the music label; Mercury Records. 6 years after the release of his debut album, he got a Grammy Award nomination in the category of Best Contemporary Pop Performance for his Instrumental on Grazin' in the Grass.

He got starred alongside his son Saleman Masekela during the South Africa based FIFA World Cup on an ESPN film series themed "Ulmando — Through My Father's Eyes.
