Sarkodie's real names are Michael Owusu Addo and he was birthed on July 10, 1988. He was given birth to in Tema, a region in Ghana and is the fourth of five children. Sarkodie was raised by a single mother, Maame Aggrey.

He was just 4 years old when he started rapping in 1992. He attended Achimota Preparatory School from where he went on to Tema Methodist Day Senior High School. He studied Graphic Designing at IPMC and is a Degree holder.
